"Run your career like a startup" - that was my message at our Go Bear career event at Unitec on Thursday, where we connected ambitious students with leaders from the government Tertiary Education Commission (TEC), Unitec, and non-profits.
I shared my own "startup" journey—from being bitten by a dog on my first day as a door-to-door salesperson to building Go Bear. The lesson? Embrace the chaos. Being small is your superpower. It makes you nimble, adaptable, and a faster learner, especially in the world of AI
This event was more than just talks; it was about connection. It's a milestone for Go Bear to be a bridge between talent and opportunity, connecting our users with government, university, and charity partners who can supercharge their careers.
This wouldn't have been possible without our amazing partners. A huge thank you to:
- Nina Ive, Frances Fuamatu, and Aaron Megchelse from the amazing team at Tertiary Education Commission
- Susan Bennett, Hamid Sharifzadeh, Bashar Barmada, Masoud Shakiba, and Angela Hunt from Unitec for sponsoring the venue and the critical support in IT, marketing and security.
- The inspiring Wee-Yeong Eyou and our fantastic MC, Sarah, Y, Tong
- ISACA Auckland (Tatum Crisp, Nelson Mendonça, Jacob Samuel) for the catering sponsorship and the onsite support from Unitec ISACA Student Group
- Finally, a big thank you for our very own incredible Go Bear event team:
Everlee Nguyen, Haozhi Tan, Ph.D., Hameedullah Aslam, and Dariia (Dasha) Kogut.
Together, we can make something exciting and amazing for our next generation!
